Unlocking the Hidden Wisdom: Decoding the Ten Virgins’ Parable

The parable of the Ten Virgins teaches believers to be watchful because the foolish virgins did not inherit the Kingdom of God due to negligence. If Believers are not vigilant, they can suffer the same fate as the foolish virgins.  So, any Believer that wants to receive eternal life must be watchful and careful.

Let’s analyze the parable of the Ten Virgins.

Mathew 25:1-13

“At that time the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom1” – Mathew 25:1

Meaning

The ten virgins represent Christians, and the bridegroom is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ used virgins to describe Christians because Christianity embodies Holiness.

Verse

Five of them were foolish, and five were wise2. The Foolish ones took their lamps but did not take oil with them3. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps4. – Mathew 25:2-4

Meaning

The five foolish virgins are Christians who are not vigilant. They may have a form of godliness, but they lack alertness. However, the five wise virgins are Christians who are Godly and watchful. Wise Believers or virgins will possess the Spirit of the Lord (oil) because of their vigilance.

Verse

The bridegroom was long in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep5. At midnight, the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!6. All virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps7. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out’8. No, they replied, ‘there may not be enough for us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves’9. –Mathew 25:5-9

Meaning

Our Lord promised He would go to Heaven to prepare a place for us. However, the Lord has yet to come, so some Believers (unwise virgins) are drawn to the things of the world due to their lack of vigilance. But the wise Believers (virgins) are watchfully waiting for the second coming of Christ. When Christ comes, the wise Believers will trim their lamps (faith) to meet Christ.

Bible Verse

But while they were going to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut10. Later, the others also came. ‘Lord. Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us11!’. “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you; I don’t know you12.’ Therefore, you do not know the day or the hour13. – Mathew 25:10-13

Meaning

Christians ready to meet Jesus will be raptured to Heaven when Christ comes. But foolish Virgins (unwise Christians) will go into an eternal fire where there will be gnashing of teeth because of their negligence. The unwise Christians will call upon Christ that day, but our Lord will not acknowledge them. (Mathew 7:21-23).
